Small Group Research into Elementary Math Specialists

This is an area for our small group, which was formed in November, to share the materials they are accumulating. A compiled report of this information will be shared in January.

  1. I received the following email from Jody today. She has found some good resources for starting to look into this subject. The following is information she received from the University of Michigan and initiatives they have begun to explore. The second project (Dev-TE@M looks interesting)

The EMS standards that the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators recently drafted:

The writing group is open to comments and feedback on the draft.

Two of our projects that focus on creating materials to help teachers develop mathematical knowledge/skills/dispositions for teaching that may be of interest to you.

The Dev-TE@M project is developing online materials for inservice professional development with elementary teachers of mathematics: http://sitemaker.umich.edu/dev-te@m

The mod4 Project is also developing materials for use with elementary teachers however, unlike the Dev-TE@M work, mod4 materials do not utilize online technologies, are meant to be used with pre-service as well as inservice teachers, and are focused more specifically on helping teachers develop mathematical knowledge for teaching (MKT): http://mod4.soe.umich.edu/mod4/home
